ZACHARY DAVIDSON

Hilton Tallinn Park, Tallinn, Estonia, Review

On my way from Latvia to Finland, I figured it could be fun to pass through Tallinn and spend a day there.  The Hilton was the obvious hotel choice being a diamond member, so I booked a one night stay.

Location

The Hilton Tallinn is located in the city center, adjacent to Politseiaia Park.  While the hotel is not in the city’s charming old town, it’s only about a 10 minute walk to the gates of the old town and within close proximity to most of the city’s main attractions.

Check In

We arrived at this modern glass structure in the late morning and entered an expansive lobby with plenty of seating as well as a restaurant and bar.

The woman at the front desk invited us to check in at the executive lounge where we relaxed and had a warm drink as our room was being cleaned.  I was given an upgrade to a one bedroom suite which I was quite pleased with, and offered a late check out until 5pm the following day which was perfect for my travel plans.

The Room

This modern suite was one of the best I’ve gotten at any hotel before.  As you enter the room there is a guest bathroom straight ahead and the living room to the right.

While I found the column in the middle of the living room to be odd, I loved the design otherwise from the carpet to the lighting to the amenities.  The living room had comfortable seating, a nice work desk, large TV, and floor to ceiling windows looking out to the city.

The hotel left some chocolate, strawberries and a small bottle of local liqueur as a welcome gift.

Through a sliding door is the master bedroom.  The bedroom is a good size, featuring a comfortable double bed, armchair, TV, separate closet area, massive bathroom, and of course the floor to ceiling windows.

The bathroom was one of the biggest I’ve had at any hotel with a separate shower and bathtub; very spacious overall.

Executive Lounge

The lounge is open each day from 6am to 10pm and serves breakfast, snacks and drinks throughout the day, and a lite dinner and cocktails in the evening.  While the breakfast was a bit underwhelming, the dinner and cocktail was quite nice with some high quality food options that can easily be a full dinner.

The lounge is a large space with plenty of seating for people to dine, work, or just relax on a couch and watch TV.  For European hotel lounge standards, this was among the better ones.

Breakfast

Here is where I was slightly disappointed with the Hilton Tallinn.  I expected a modern Hilton like this to have a more elaborate and interesting breakfast than the average European hotel, though I was wrong to assume so.  Breakfast served the standard pastries, eggs, cold cuts, cereal, juices, and more..  The offerings were okay, but I mostly saved my appetite for lunch in the city.

Hotel Amenities

As with most good hotels in Northern Europe, the Hilton Tallinn has a gorgeous pool and sauna.  This was probably the nicest indoor pool area I’ve seen at a hotel with one main swimming pool, jacuzzi, and several saunas and steam rooms.

The hotel gym however was very small and one of the least impressive I’ve seen of any hotel.

Bottom Line

While not located in the old town, the Hilton Tallinn is in excellent location, a short walk from most attractions in the city.  With gorgeous rooms, friendly staff, and a beautiful executive lounge, I would happily stay here again.  Although I cannot imagine a reason I would be back in Tallinn…no doubt I will stay here again if I do find myself there again.
