There are many daily nonstop flights between Singapore and Bali, though if you’re flying in business class, you’ll definitely want to be flying this aircraft!  Only two daily departures are operated by the 787, and you’re in for a treat to be flying this aircraft on a two hour flight!

787 Seat and Cabin

Singapore Airlines’ relatively new business class cabin is in a 1 – 2 – 1 layout with staggered seats spread across nine rows.  For solo travelers, the best seats are A or K in the even rows for added privacy, while couples should choose seats D and F in odd numbered rows.  Overall the cabin is nice, though a bit plain looking with nothing really exciting going on in the color scheme or décor.

I found the seats themselves to be well designed and very comfortable.  There’s essentially the same amount of storage as what you get on a reverse herringbone seat with a table next to the seat and small compartment above it with a sliding door.

Inside the compartment are two USB ports and one universal outlet for charging devices, as well as noise cancelling headphones.

I found the footwell to be a bit small and had a difficult time getting comfortable while lying down.

Overall, I liked the seat and am impressed to see Singapore Airlines rolling out a long haul style seat on many short flights within Asia.

Food

This was a morning departure, thus the meal served on this flight was brunch.  The menu read a follows:

I chose the Indonesian Beef Noodle dish, and thought it didn’t look great, it was very flavorful.

This was accompanied by some unfortunately dry pastries, fruit, and a raspberry dessert which I didn’t try.

The meal service, while not the best I’ve had, was adequate for a two hour flight and left me satisfied.

Service

We were welcomed onboard by a very friendly crew and pointed towards our seats.  Shortly after being seated, we were offered hot towels and a welcome drink.

No amenity kits were provided on this short flight to Bali, however a large pillow and somewhat comfortable blanket were.

The crew were extremely friendly and engaging during the meal service and were nice enough to make a vegetarian meal for my grandmother using what they had onboard.  They took very good care of us and were so excited to hear I was taking my grandmother through Asia and flying her in business class for the first time.

This must have been the best crew I’ve ever had in business class, hands down.  Thanks a lot Singapore Airlines!

Before I knew it, we were starting out descend into Bali.  After enjoying the incredible views out my window, we were on the ground safely and headed towards immigration.

Bottom Line

This was probably the best shorthaul business class flight I’ve had, ever.  The crew were fantastic, the meal service was good, and the seats were some of the best you’ll get on a shorthaul flight.  I’d take this flight again in a heartbeat, though I hope to fly Singapore Airlines’ longhaul product soon to get the full Singapore Airlines experience.
