After arriving from Barcelona, I rushed to get to The Concorde Room and spend the most of my two hour layover in the lounge before continuing to Johannesburg.  I wish I had more time to spend here, as there are many amenities the lounge has to offer which I didn’t have the time to take full advantage of.  I will certainly come back to this incredible lounge to fully enjoy all it has to offer!

How to Access

Only passengers with a same day British Airways First Class ticket (including mileage tickets), as well as British Airways’ top tier elite members can access The Concorde Room.  All other OneWorld elite members and passengers in first class on other airlines cannot access.

Location

The Concorde Room is located at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5, A concourse.  For passengers arriving from London, the entrance is just past the premium check in area and security.  For passengers connecting from other British Airways flights, you’ll need to follow the signs to Terminal 5, A concourse and pass through security.  The entrance to the lounge will be immediately to the right of the connecting passenger security screening.

Concorde Dining

I arrived at the Concorde Room at about 7:30pm, the perfect time for dinner at the lounge’s restaurant.  While there is a formal sit-down dining area, you may order food to be brought to you anywhere in the lounge.  I chose to eat in the dining area in one of their many booths fit for up to four guests. The dining area was luxurious and extremely private with high partitions between each table.

I started with some champagne to drink (the Concorde Room serves Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle) as well as soup and a fig and goat cheese tart, all were delicious.  For my main course I had the beef which was tasty as well though I expected it to be better.  The dessert options didn’t appeal to me, so I passed on the sweets in order to check out the rest of the lounge.  Overall this was a very good dining experience with options that should appeal to most travelers.

If you are just looking for a drink or something light to eat, there’s a bar right across from the dining area where you can order food and drink as well.

Cabanas (British Airways’ private rooms)

One feature that makes this lounge unique are its so called “cabanas.”  These are private rooms with your own daybed, desk, TV, bathroom, and shower.

For people with long layovers at Heathrow airport, this is a great place to get some rest, take an important phone call, wash off in the shower, or just to get some privacy.  While having a large private space to shower was nice, the room wasn’t at all luxurious as you would expect from a first class lounge.  The room felt dated and the bathroom looks like one I would expect to use at a doctor’s office.  While this is a nice benefit to utilize at the Concorde Room, these cabanas are in need of an upgrade.

Lounge Seating

The Concorde Room has ample seating considering how many passengers access the lounge each day.  Whether you’re traveling solo or in a group, you’ll be able to find a private area to sit.  Whether you’re sitting at the bar, getting cozy on a couch by one of the “fire places,” or enjoying the unique seating options in the “outdoor space”, You’ll find a comfortable place to sit and relax here.

Bottom Line

While it’s not my favorite airport lounge, I had a fantastic 90 minutes here before boarding my next flight.  The lounge has a great dining facility, private rooms to relax and shower in, friendly staff, and provides a relaxing, luxurious, and exclusive atmosphere.  Next time I fly British Airways first class, I would happily spend 3+ hours enjoying the lounge’s amenities before the flight.
