I enjoyed my recent stay at the Hilton Dresden. The hotel in in excellent location to explore the city though is a bit dated and I hope will be renovated soon.
Check in
After a pleasant 15 minute walk from the main railway station, I arrived in the Hitlon Dresden’s expansive lobby. Immediately to the right of the entrance was the front desk where I was checked in immediately.
I had booked the standard room and while they were reluctant to upgrade me (even as a Diamond member), they eventually did to their second largest room, a duplex suite on the 5th floor. The front desk staff weren’t all that friendly or welcoming which did not leave me with a great first impression of the hotel, however the room is what’s most important to me.
The Room
I was assigned room 5069 for my one night stay. I opened the door to a living room which was about the size of a standard hotel room, and a spiral wooden staircase to the right.
On the second floor was the bedroom, bathroom, desk, dining area, as well as another smaller living area with sofa and coffee table.
The second floor has windows that open to a fire escape which I used as a balcony with a lovely view of the surrounding architecture.
Otherwise, the room was just fine. I found the furnishings to be a bit old and dull, but comfortable enough for our one night stay. I was quite happy with the room, though it would have been nice to have a second bathroom on the first floor.
Executive Lounge and Amenities
The executive lounge is located on the 2nd floor and overlooks the lobby. As a Hilton Platinum member, I was given complementary access to the lounge which serves breakfast, snacks throughout the day, and a light dinner and drinks in the evenings. While the lounge itself was a nice space to sit, the food offered didn’t interest me much, though it was nice to be able to grab drinks throughout the day.
All guests are given complementary access to the fitness center which consists of a pretty large gym, pool, outdoor jacuzzi, and sauna. While not the nicest I’ve seen, the facilities were excellent for a hotel in the city center and I made good use of them.
Breakfast
Ahhh my favorite part of staying at hotels! Breakfast was held in the massive lobby restaurant. The buffet was standard for most European Hiltons and while not so impressive it does the trick.
For some of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, try the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem, Conrad Pune, or DoubleTree Kuala Lumpur mmmmmmmmm.
Bottom Line
I had a nice stay at the Hilton Dresden. Location was perfect, the room was very comfortable, and the gym and pool were excellent for a centrally located hotel. While the executive lounge and breakfast weren’t so exciting, they were in line with what I expected from this property. As a Hilton loyalist, I would certainly stay here should I find myself in Dresden again.
