Lufthansa First Class Terminal, Frankfurt Airport

In addition to the first class lounges which Lufthansa operates at Frankfurt airport, they have a separate terminal building dubbed the First Class Terminal for use by Lufthansa first class passengers and top elite members only.  This is without a doubt one of the best airport experiences available worldwide.

How to Get There

For passengers arriving from Frankfurt by taxi, you can easily pull up to the curb just outside the first class terminal and walk right in.

If you are taking the train from the city, you’ll need to walk about 10 minutes from the main terminal to the first class terminal and take the elevator up to the main level.  Signage is not great, so you’ll need to ask airport staff to point you in the right direction.

If you are a connecting passenger, you will need to exit the airport and walk over to the first class terminal where you will take an elevator up to the main level.

Connecting passengers without a visa to enter Germany will not be able to access the first class terminal as you are required to exit the main terminal building to get there.

Check In

The first class terminal has its own check in area with a few desks and a nice sitting area.  It feels like being in a boutique hotel lobby.

Check in was quick and within a few seconds I had passed security (I was the only one going through security at that time) and was given a tour of the lounge by the woman who checked me in.

The Lounge

The lounge is essentially one massive rectangular space divided into several sections.  To the left is mainly just a sitting area with a few private rooms with a desk, chair, and computer.

In the center of the lounge you’ll fine the bar with one of the most impressive alcohol selections I’ve ever seen as well as Lufthansa’s signature gummy bears.

Adjacent to the bar is the dining area with both a full a la carte menu as well as a large buffet selection.

Finally, on the right side of the lounge is a cigar bar with complementary cigars, nap rooms, bathrooms, and shower suites.

One of the shower suites even has a bath tub where they offer guests a Lufthansa rubber duck to accompany you in the bath!

The Lufthansa first class terminal lounge is functional, spacious and elegant, and I really enjoyed my time here.  However, I do think Lufthansa could do a better job with their nap rooms and replace the rock hard day beds with proper beds for passengers to get a proper rest.

Food

The first class terminal has a small dining area with about two dozen tables and offers both a full buffet and a la carte options that can be ordered from the kitchen.  Aside from the printed menu, you can make any request to the staff and if they have the ingredients in the kitchen, they will make whatever you want.

I had a long stay at the terminal from morning to early afternoon and was able to sample both breakfast and lunch at the lounge dining area.  For breakfast the menu read as follows:

Although it was not on the menu, I asked for a bagel with salmon and cream cheese as well as an iced coffee and was brought the following:

Both were just what I wanted!

In addition to this menu, there was a sizable buffet with a nice variety of high quality food.

The dining area was set up for lunch just before noon with new buffet items and an a la carte lunch menu.  The lunch menu read as follows:

I ordered a wiener schnitzel, Bavarian pretzels and a Konig Pilsner beer from the menu and helped myself to some of the buffet items, all of which were delicious.

This was a top-notch dining experience.  While I don’t consider this to be the best first class dining experience, the quality and range of food is very good and worth arriving early to enjoy.

Boarding

When it’s time for boarding, one of the lounge staff will take you to the elevator to go down one level where passports and boarding passes are checked.  One of the lounge staff will then take you to your aircraft by car.  Lufthansa’s car fleet include a range of Porsche, Mercedes and Volkswagen cars, SUV’s and vans which are chosen based on how many people are being driven to your plane.

Being driven to the plane in a Porsche is one of the highlights of all my first class travels.  This is a truly unique experience and I loved every minute of the drive!

Bottom Line

Lufthansa does a wonderful job here making their first class passengers feel like VIP’s.  Being able to completely bypass the crowded main terminal, have a fine dining experience, a bath with a Lufthansa rubber duck, and finally being driven to your aircraft in a Porsche is an amazing experience.  I can’t wait to be back in Frankfurt and book a long layover to spend another few hours in the first class terminal.
