In my travels, I love seeking out cities and countries that have amazing food and culture, a combination of relaxation and adventure, and of course good value for your money.
These are my top picks for the best travel destinations in 2020:
Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town has amazing landscapes, wildlife, food, wine, beaches, and some of the warmest people you’ll ever meet. Prices are very reasonable, making Cape Town great value for your money. For those who haven’t visited before, Cape Town is my top pick for where to travel in 2020.
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
I first visited Bosnia and Herzegovina four years ago and fell in love with the country. Back then, there were only about 8 flights per day to the country’s main airport, however now that number has significantly increased, making it easier than ever to get to. Both Sarajevo and the nearby city of Mostar have an incredible mix of Ottoman, Gothic, and modern architecture, as well as amazing food and drinks, rich history, and beautiful nature.
Muscat, Oman
While Dubai mostly takes the spotlight in the Middle East, Oman is a great option for an authentic Arabian experience. With a brand new airport in Muscat, and a great national carrier (Oman Air), getting to Oman is easy and more comfortable than ever. Oman has some incredible sites to see, great beaches, friendly people, and of course delicious food!
Istanbul, Turkey
A city I’ve visited quite frequently, Istanbul is by far my favorite city in Europe (sort of Europe). With cheap and delicious food, reasonably priced luxury hotels, amazing sites, and incredible views, I can’t get enough of this city. With the New Istanbul Airport featuring my favorite business class lounge in the world, Istanbul is easier than ever to reach with Turkish Airlines continuing to expand its global network.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi is officially open to tourists and I for one am pretty intrigued. Its second largest city, Jeddah, also recently got a brand new airport which looks gorgeous! I don’t know much regarding tourism in Saudi, though I’m always up for a new adventure!
Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur is the perfect Southeast Asian urban destination with an incredible blend of cultures. KL has some of the most affordable luxury hotels in the world, incredible restaurants, seemingly endless shopping malls, and no shortage of things to do and see at any budget. Skip Singapore and head to the more interesting, exciting, and budget friendly Kuala Lumpur!
The Maldives
I think the pictures can easily speak for why I feel the Maldives should be one of the top 2020 destinations. While you can easily rack up a massive bill at one of the country’s luxury resorts, the experience is one of a kind and worth it. For those looking for the ultimate beach vacation, the Maldives should be on your list for 2020!
Uzbekistan
While flights to Uzbekistan and Central Asia are quite limited, you’ll be rewarded for making the difficult journey to get there. Uzbekistan has a rich history with some amazing sites, and you can see it all for some of the lowest prices you’ll find anywhere. I love off the beaten track destinations and hope to visit Uzbekistan and its Central Asian neighbors in 2020.
Bali, Indonesia
It’s never a bad time for a trip to Bali! This island has it all, from ultimate relaxation to adventure, great food, beautiful resorts, and activities to fit all budgets. While you can certainly find better beach destinations in Southeast Asia, Bali is a great option for those looking for seaside as well as amazing greenery and adventure.
